Miguel is working tirelessly for a strong foundation.

Miguel Torres is the father of Breanna, age 14; Michael, age 13; Alex, age 9; Alynna, age 7; and Aryanna, age 3. Miguel, along with his wife Esmeralda Torres, raise their children with love for each other and respect for their community. Miguel married Esmeralda at a young age and devoted his time and energy to raising their children while working full-time. At one of the many workshops provided by Fresno Housing Resident Services, he expressed a desire to complete his GED. Miguel became a student of the GED program at Parc Grove Commons in January 2014. He was matched with a tutor and met with his mentor on a weekly basis. He also attended every group session to learn about the four subjects of the GED exam.

Miguel works as a forklift driver at a metal distribution company. He understood the necessity of having his GED in order to apply for higher wage employment and was determined to finish the GED testing as soon as time permitted. He successfully completed his GED requirements in July 2014. Miguel is a high school graduate! He has applied to truck driving school with the goal of obtaining his license to operate his own truck.

While working full-time, Miguel did not lose sight of his goals. He worked very hard and devoted his extra time, after work and being with his kids, to studying to accomplish his certification.  Miguel wants to improve his life for himself and his children. His family is his motivation to embrace opportunities to increase the quality of their lives. His children have cheered for him and their mom, Esmeralda, in achieving their GED.
